General Counselling
General counselling is counselling that doesn't fall into other categories such as anxiety counselling or self-esteem counselling. It can be about anything at all; any problem that you think would benefit from talking to an independent professional about. I offer general counselling in Richmond, an inner suburb of Melbourne, and in Sunbury.
Who counselling helps
General counselling, by it's nature, helps a wide variety of people. Counselling benefits people with a wide range of problems. These can include problems with relationships, problems with goal-setting or managing life transitions. There is no set length of time that counselling takes, so the duration can be of varied according to your needs.
Why it works
When people consider counselling, they compare it to talking to a good friend or to a member of a family. Now, talking to friends or a member of a family can be very helpful for sorting out problems. They know you, and they may know the situation too. However, people often find that their friends and their family are too close to the problem; this can lead to situations where you end up saying something to a friend or family member that you wish you hadn't said. in other situations, friends and family members might be invested in a particular solution.
One of the reasons that professional counselling works is that you're working with somebody who is committed to solving a problem but not invested in any particular outcome. At the end of the counselling process, a counsellor isn't going to be hanging around reminding you of your problems.
What to expect
When you start general counselling, Will spend some time talking through your situation and what you're hoping to get out of the counselling. I can let you know if I can help you with that situation, and then, if I can, we can set up some further sessions to start to solve the problem. Along the way, you can expect to get an increased understanding of why these situations occur, why they keep occurring, and what you can do about them.
My initial consultation is at no cost and there is no further obligation. I do counselling in Richmond and Sunbury; let's work out if there's a way I can help you.
